[x] (sub)tree presentation: use short labels instead of rule names, mouse-over to get full label Dan likes the unary rule projection rendering; Emily isn't quite sure. show *a* tree (highest ranking perhaps?) for a discriminant sometimes, would like to be able to see the top ranked (statistically) tree, and just decide if it's right -- further ideas on this: - selective unpacking should let us pull the top-ranked tree subject to constraints - we should also be able to compute the maxent normalization term without too much trouble - compute total score for edge X and all subtree sections below it for all unpackings, subject to X having a particular GP[3] ancestry, say - then total score for edge X regardless of ancestry is just sum over such ancestry contexts, and total score for the whole forest is sum over root edges - allows presentation of absolute probabilities, both for a *tree* and for an *edge*, and perhaps also for a *discriminant*... that could be very handy. - two types of probability: absolute (out of all unpackings) conditional (out of the unpackings available with a certain set of decisions) - when conditional probability of top ranked tree becomes sufficiently high, the operator may want to just look at that tree -- but then what discriminants would we record? -- machine ranker to pick a minimal subset of the inferred discriminants for that tree, then ask the annotator to validate that set as reasonable [x] when displaying a discriminant in shorthand, mouse over it to highlight the sentence span [x] liba get_http_request() has a 1024-char internal buffer... that needs to be extended a lot, since we are passing long URLs full of constraints. [x] for ambiguous tokenization, e.g. ws01 10012170, we get doubled tokens appearing. solution: display the *original* input text, and guess character positions for each post-token-mapping vertex. we know most of them, guess the remainder. (how?) [x] online option to display or hide text that is hiding between tokens [x] when zooming an svg tree, turn off all the visible node labels... the chosen tree can fail to exist. e.g. item 10010130 in ws01, dan's discriminants get us down to 2 apparently reasonable trees, but 1 of them fails to reconstruct we now tell the user that their tree doesn't exist when we try to display the tree (reconstruction failed when we tried to figure out parse node labels) it would be nice to never even give the user the *option* of going down a path with no real trees... baring that, it would be nice to tell them about the problem as soon as they *start* down such a path, and it would be nice to *remember* that that path is no good (somehow). - note: there are two possible causes for reconstruction failures from a packed forest. a. the packing restrictor may have discarded combinatorially relevant info - note that the root path of the AVM is kind of on the packing restrictor, in that it gets generalized to `sign'. this enables a significant amount of worthwhile extra packing for the ERG, because the ERG essentially never looks at the root type of a sign to make a constraint. for this problem item 10010130, it turns out the ERG makes an exception to that pattern; the root type is used to block wrong orderings of the w_drop-iright/w_drop-ileft rules. b. when packing under subsumption, packed representatives of a rule's two daughters may be more specific than their hosts in incompatible ways - we could in theory get rid of problem (a) by removing things from the packing restrictor, but that would reduce packing and slow us down - we could in theory get rid of problem (b) by packing under equivalence, but that slows parsing down a lot for long sentences, and makes the forests substantially bigger. - can at least solve this particular issue by not generalizing AVM root types when treebanking. for the future when using PTB input: - inputs are (S (trees with) (labels)) - glue code to transform that into a) plain text strings (space-delimited) and b) yy-format token chart keeping the POS tags and with characterization relative to (a) - feed (b) to ACE, record the forest - feed (a) to the GUI for displaying the sentence to be aware: ACE tagger and TNT are a bit different, so the forests will be different; occasionally existing manual decisions will rule out all trees.
